The area around the meandering Turtle Creek has been considered prime Dallas real estate practically since the beginning. It was only in 1937 that the area was actually referred to as Turtle Creek, however, after it had become known for its parks as well as for the magnificence of Turtle Creek homes.
At the turn of the 20th century, Mayor John Henry Brown pushed for the development of the Turtle Creek parkway. Lee Park, which was once known as Oak Lawn Park, was established in 1903 and has the distinction of being the city’s first public park. It was followed by Reverchon Park in 1909. Today, most Turtle Creek homes are only a stone’s throw away from the neighborhood’s four parks – Lee, Reverchon, William B. Dean and the Turtle Creek Parkway. The last was designated as one of Dallas’ five signature parks in 2002.
The presence of so many extensive green and open spaces has contributed greatly to the unique appeal of Turtle Creek homes. Life seems to slow down when you enter the neighborhood’s environs and more often than not your brisk city walk becomes a leisurely stroll. With a manicured landscape punctuated by massive oaks and manmade waterfalls, Turtle Creek Real Estate is an oasis of shade and calm in the Big D.
This idyllic pastoral scene also has pockets of excitement, however. Turtle Creek is also home to a number of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues that are some of the most popular in Dallas.
